I used this delightful scene from the Laguepie Occitan University festival to help me write a medieval ronda dance in the novel. My heroine is a trobairitz (a female troubadour). The contemporary musicians in the video are Los Cazelots. Thank you to them and to the dancers.

New Novel on Pre-Order

I’m excited to announce that my new novel is on pre-order now and will be published on 2 September.

It’s a medieval murder mystery featuring the female troubadour sleuth, Beatriz de Farrera, set in late 11th-century Toulouse.

It’s also being serialised (one chapter a week) for paying subscribers on Substack, or subscribe for free to read the prologue.

Acts of Literary Kindness

Today is the 7th birthday of the Book Fairies who annually coordinate acts of literary kindness around the world. Two of my books – one in French and one in English – will be hiding, waiting for you to find them, in the French village of Laguepie 82250 on Sunday 10th March. Clues to their whereabouts will be coming on Sunday morning.

Meanda is a future fiction novella in French, set on a watery exoplanet. (An English version is available in The Water Age and Other Fictions.)

Almodis tells the story of an 11th-century countess of Toulouse and Barcelona. This book is in English.

Serialising a new novel

Today, I started serialising my new novel, Love’s Knife, on Substack. It’s the first book in my Trobairitz Sleuth Series and is a medieval murder mystery set in Toulouse in 1093.

You can subscribe to my Substack for £5 a month and receive one chapter a week on Saturdays (that’s £1.20 a chapter). There are 30 chapters, so we will reach the end of the book together at the end of August.

When the serialisation is completed subscribers receive a free ebook or paperback (for you or to gift to someone else).
